Spring has sprung and color is everywhere! Photographers of all skill levels and camera types are out recording what they see. There are many options for getting great close-up pics of flowers that include high-quality macro lenses for digital SLR cameras to the easy built-in macro capabilities of the compact point and shoot models.

Below are three images that illustrate a great and inexpensive trick for the average point-and-shoot camera user to get even closer than their camera typically allows.
The above image, and the two below, were taken with a Fuji compact point-and-shoot camera. The first image was a normal view with the lens not zoomed in at all.
This image was taken with the camera set in the macro mode — designated by the little flower icon setting.
The above image was taken using the macro mode while holding a $2.00 magnifying glass in front of camera’s lens! A simple and cheap trick it is obviously not the high quality of an SLR macro lens, but for the average user it adds a fun dimension to spring flower photography!
