The weather was nearly perfect for a weekend of waterfall photography. Overcast, but no rain, and not too hot. There was a bit of a breeze from time to time… typically when we wanted to photograph wildflowers, but we coped. Folks came from as far away as Michigan.
We worked on the basics — controlling shutter speeds for the “veil” effect, as well as showing the power of moving water. Adjusting apertures and working with the limited range of non-SLR cameras by using neutral density filters.
We visited four different locations over the weekend offering many different challenges and opportunities. From large multi-tiered and fast flowing cataracts to small, hillside springs. Each location offered a new learning experience.

Over the next few posts we will discuss the different techniques that were used for composition and exposure, and we will also show you some of our students’ images!
