Peru is an amazing country and this trip exposes you to both the Amazon jungle, the Amazon River and its tributaries, and the Peruvian pacific coast. This trip was full of photographic opportunities with bats, monkeys, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects! Pygmy Marmosets, the smallest primate in the world, put on a show with a family group including a tiny baby foraging near our boat and eventually climbing right over us! We watched Wooly Monkeys forage by hanging from their prehensile tails and Black-faced Squirrel Monkeys flew through the forest jumping amazing distances. Toucans, kingfishers, parrots, and raptors were often the target of our cameras with a nesting location for multiple pairs of Ringed Kingfishers which provided some up close in flight photos. As we hiked a couple of different locations I took advantage of spectacular macro photography including Horse-headed Grasshoppers on multiple occasions, spiders, ants, and beetles!

We had a wonderful group of men and women join us in 2022 which provided for many entertaining moments. Using Zeiss’s newest thermal monocular, we were able to find some interesting mammals and birds during our sunset boat ride and our final morning along the Peruvian Coast was a boat ride where we enjoyed Peruvian Pelicans, Humboldt Penguins, Blackish Oystercatchers, Blue-footed and Peruvian Boobies, and Inca Terns to name a few. While riding our skiffs up and down tributaries to the Amazon we delighted in multiple sightings of both Grey and Pink River Dolphins.

Throughout our trip, we encountered a treasure trove of birds, mammals, and more and then we had a couple of days to enjoy Lima, Peru. A wonderful city with some beautiful hotels and delicious food. We hope you will consider joining us on the Amazon 2023: Peruvian Riverboat Photography & Birding Adventure.
