Eastern Screech Owl seen at Magee Marsh in May

Got your attention? Okay, maybe I should have said ‘marshes’ as I am in Port Clinton, OH on the shores of Lake Erie. If you remember (or search the blog) I was here in May for the International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) celebration at Magee Marsh. This time I am here for the 3rd ANNUAL YOUNG BIRDERS CONFERENCE sponsored by the Black Swamp Bird Observatory.

I arrived after dark (darn these short autumn days) so I did not get out for any birding or photography. That’s why I shared an image from last May… probably the only resident bird I photographed at that time! However, I will be up and out by 6:30am on Saturday — and I hope to get some fun photos from the weekend!

The day will begin with presentations from many of the local young birders, culminating in a Big Year by Bicycle presentation given by a young man from Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. He and his folks road 13,000 miles around western North America. I can’t wait to hear his tale!

Mid-afternoon on Saturday, after the indoor festivities have concluded, we will head outside to enjoy some local birding. Then on Sunday we will enjoy some Lake Erie pelagic birding. Then I get to do the 8+ hour drive back home!

I will ave more to report at the conclusion of the weekend! For more info on the Ohio Young Birders and the conference visit: OhioYoungBirders.org
