Both Ruby-throated Hummingbird chicks are still small enough that only their bills are visible when resting. During my visit the female came in once and alternately fed both of them three times each. It is amazing to watch her put nearly all of her inch-long bill straight down into the chicks mouth. All this activity takes place in silence as there are no begging sounds from the chicks. I could not make out if their eyes have opened yet.
