Wings in Motion
Jun 21, 2009 | by Adrian Binns
While looking through photographs that I took at Jane’s feeders this weekend, I came across enough shots of interest to show birds with their wings open in different poses.
As its mother forages nearby, a young Carolina Chickadee has its wings slightly stretched out to make shallow wingbeats as it begs for food.
With its wings raised and quivering as it hangs on to the feeder, this Tufted Titmouse has fully exposed the orange-brown on the upper flanks
The upward sweep of the wings of a Northern Cardinal as it tries to balance itself on a feeder, shows the contrast on the primaries between the rich red on the lower half and the lighter upper half
This young male Downy Woodpecker (you can just make out the red on the nape) got a peanut and is about to take off
