Palm Warbler (yellow)

Surprisingly there was only one warbler seen this week in the yard, but what a beauty the yellow Palm Warbler is.

Eastern Towhee

Eastern Towhees have been “tow-weeting” every day, sometimes more than one individual. We certainly have had our share of Hermit Thrushes this month and one continues, often found in the shady back corner but occasionally posing on logs or venturing into the open.  White-throated Sparrows continue in numbers, though they’ll soon depart for northerly breeding grounds, along with Ruby-crowned Kinglets which have been singing and flitting in constant motion.

Field Sparrow

Chipping Sparrows have been busy hopping around the lawn, joined by an unexpected Field Sparrow several days in a row. We enjoyed seeing our first-of-year Gray Catbird, though it didn’t stay long. Our second Blue-headed Vireo this spring showed in the red maple tree.
