Surrounded by Superb Starlings

If you’ve walked in your local park or green space anywhere in the US, no doubt you’ve seen a European Starling (or dozens). They are abundant, widespread, and often derided as an aggressive, non-native species. Look closely and you’ll see they are quite stunning with dark, glossy, iridescent green and purple feathers, white spots and bright yellow bill.
In Eastern Africa, the similarly-sized Superb Starlings, a native endemic of north-east Africa, are equally as abundant and widespread. In a region with many starling species, the aptly-named Superb stands out with bold colors, iridescent blue-green plumage and striking pale eye.
Starlings comprise a large family of birds that are native to Africa, Asia, Australasia and Europe. European Starlings were introduced to North America in the 19th century, and quickly expanded to every corner. Wherever you roam in those parts of the world, you’ll find yourself surrounded by an astonishing variety of starlings! The eye-catching Superb Starling is commonly seen on any of our Kenya, Tanzania, or Uganda safaris.
