I am fascinated by the latest posting in the world of citizen science. This webcam in Irvine, CA focuses on the minute by minute life of a female Allen’s Hummingbird raising her brood of two.

The chicks are now about 10 days old. They will grow fast and fledge (leave the nest) when they are between 22 and 25 days old. It is amazing to see her aim her long bill with laser precision into the throats of her tiny babies, providing them with life-giving protein.

Note: That there is no lighting to illuminate the nest at night!!
