I spent a delightful Father’s Day at Jane’s spending most of the day outside on the patio, enjoying a BBQ with our boys and watching an array of avian activity in the backyard. However, it was the action at the pond that was most intriguing. It was not just the robins, catbirds and blue jays coming in to get a drink from the stream on this hot day, or the goldfish perusing the pickerel rush on the perimeter, but…….

…..a territorial dispute between two (of the eighteen) Green Frogs that inhabit this small wildlife haven. Standing up they locked arms, wrestling on hind legs until the weakest one was pinned to the shallow water.

The larger one may have been trying to drown him. This went on for about 4 minutes, and every once in a while the smaller one would get enough strength to try and wiggle out of the lock only to be re-pinned. As this went on, they slowly crept closer to the waterfall and eventually the force of the water took them tumbling over the edge, where there got separated suffering only bruised egos.
