There is not much to do around Lima Peru in the few hours I have while I wait for my flight out tonight. So I will take some of this time to offer a “teaser” for my upcoming trip report series from our 15-day Peru adventure!

From the Cock-of-the-Rock to Lyre-tailed Nightjars on the mid-level cloud forests, to Puna Ibis and Thornbirds of the highlands to monkeys and macaws in the Amazonian rain forests, this trip was fantastic! Everyday offered a new set of birds and new adventures as well.

The weather treated us very well as we travelled toward the ned of the dry season. Rivers were high enough to allow easy travel in the Amazon Basin… though were very nearly flipped our boat on one occasion (stay tuned for that story)!

The exceptional birds and other wildlife were matched by the awesome sight of the structures of Machu Picchu, high in the mountains. How did they make this incredible city?

Peru has so much to offer hard-core birders and photographers as well as general nature enthusiasts. It is difficult to choose which aspects of the trip were the most fulfilling. Each location offered its own charm, its own set of birds and photo opportunities… and challenges.

In the coming days I will share some of our highlights while taking you on a brief adventure through images and words!
