    I say Black Tern

The shadow turned out sharp when the bird was not in focus!

I'll post the answer by midweek, once people have had a chance to guess.

Tapered tail, pointy/swept back wings, round head w. small beak = Barn Swallow? Perhaps tail and wings look slightly elongated due to position of the sun?

With length of tail and subtle bill, I will also go with barn swallow

Tiny bill and long tail push me toward Barn Swallow as well. Now for another interesting question: why is the shadow such a rich blue?

I'm going with Barn Swallow, too. The shadow looks like a bird seen from above.

My first thought was Barn Swallow as well, for the reasons already mentioned. While other swallows are possible, I don't expect so tapered a tail except on Barn.

The shadow looks blue because all shadows in natural light are blue due to scattered light from the sky getting to the surface on which the shadow is projected while all other light is blocked.

I am wondering about a Palm Swift with that long tail. Whatever it is it's a great mysterious pic.

I'm going to go out on a limb (because of the water) and say Leach's Storm-petrel.

    But I really think it's a barn swallow. 🙂
