Suddenly the Dall’s Porpoises dispersed as quickly as they had appeared. We quickly saw the reason… Killer Whales, Orcas, three were approaching from the north. Orcas are the number one predator of Dall’s Porpoises!

We paused for a bit, drifting in the scant breeze. The Orcas appeared nonchalant. Passing by the numbers increased, there were now about five.

The water erupted as an Orca had a Dall’s Porpoise in its jaws! Appearing only briefly, I missed the image, but captured the Orca drowning the smaller sea mammal. It was over in a few minutes.

The Orcas continued to patrol the area for quite a while swimming south and north and south again. They approached the boat a several occasions allowing for great photos.

They finally disappeared moving south and we motored off to find safe harbor for the night…

    Hi Water Sky-

As soon as I can, I will be posting a report on the new Canon 7D which can do video while you shoot… with some draw backs…

Great WNT (Short for Wildside Nature Tours). For me I got a Sony Cyber-shot 13.6 megapixels HD camera that can also take video. And I got a Panasonic SDR-H80 HDD vidcam that has 70x optical zoom amd it can take pics. Thanks for commenting back WNT.
