ALASKA: Petersburg
Jun 24, 2010 | by Kevin Loughlin
The town of Petersburg rolls up its sidewalks by about 9pm during the week. It is a true fishing down with a Nordic heritage of which they are very proud. About 3000 people populate the town during the summer months when the seafood canneries are at their peak production. The people in Petersburg are some of the friendliest I know. My first visit here I felt right at home and when I left, I knew I would return… again and again.
Full of fishing boats, Petersburg’s harbors are very picturesque. Few tour boats come here, so there are only a handful of dedicated souvenir shops. The hardware store and general stores do carry the expected t-shirts and coffee mugs adorned with Alaska and Petersburg motifs.
