The island of Bartolomé became famous through the movie ‘Master and Commander‘ starring Russell Crowe. Last year it was the site of my proposal to my new wife, Lisa!

The volcanic soil supports little life, mainly tequila (nothing to do with alcohol!), the silvery, fine-leafed plant in the above image. A few Lava Cactus have also taken hold on the iron-rich rock.

Looking more like a Mars-scape, this scene was actually used as a green screen backdrop for Mars in the Schwartzenegger movie ‘Total Recall’.

Climbing over 370 steps to the top offers a view of the most photographed landmark in the Galapagos Islands… Pinnacle Rock.

From the water, Pinnacle Rock looks very different!

Common Noddies, Blue-footed Boobies, Galapagos Penguins and Lava Herons line the shore, unafraid of our passing.

A special treat on this visit was a mating pair of Green Turtles! The males cling to the female, the added weight making it very difficult for her to come up for a breath. Other males are often waiting for their turn, giving her no rest!
