Chestnut-sided Warbler |
The weather for our trip began with a bit of fog that burned off early revealing a beautiful day. We spent it on land, or at least some of us did. One couple in our group were pilots… both helicopter and fixed-wing. They decided to hire a helicopter (a vintage Bell with the glass dome canopy) and took to the air for a bit.

Audubon’s Project Puffin Visitor Center in Rockland, ME |
Late afternoon we drove to Rockland to enjoy the Project Puffin Visitor Center and contribute to their cause. The center offers details and a documentary video that plays all day to inform visitors on the work that has been done to reintroduce the Atlantic Puffin to US waters again!
Of course, no trip to Maine would be complete without enjoying a fine lobster meal! Our plan was to go to a well known restaurant nearby… however, while we were enjoying the birds outside for a bit, a server from Chez Michel came out to see what we were looking at, when we told her all about the birds we were seeing she mentioned a couple other good bird locations in the area. Thanks to her curiosity and kindness, we decided to enjoy our meal at Chez Michel instead! When we sat down inside we found we were seated next to a couple of Maine Audubon members!
The meal was excellent and the service superb. When in the Belfast area, be sure to visit Chez Michel for your lobster meal (or many other great menu options)!
