50,000 Snow Geese look like snow!
Today’s PA Young Birder’s, a privileged four kids, three parents and four volunteer leaders witnessed the strong beginnings of the waterfowl migration through Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) near Kleinfeltersville, PA.
Shortly after arrival at the WMA we began spotting many geese with yellow, numbered rings on their necks and it became a fun challenge to find more and try to read their identification numbers. Just as we would find a few, something would spook the geese and they would lift off forcing us to start scanning the flocks again!
Tundra Swans were also in good numbers… maybe around 1000 or so, and offered many fly-overs in the brilliant sun with blue sky background.
Mike, a friendly birder from the Gettysburg area, pointed out a Greater White-fronted Goose that was well hidden in the mix. It was a great opportunity to show the kids the importance of detailed observation!

Great pics. We don't get that type of situations down here in Texas.
