Festive Coquette

The afternoon brought an invitation from the lodge manager to be the first to visit a new project about 30 minutes upstream. Recently acquired land was already planted with many hummingbird attracting plants, and they were working on turning it into a hummingbird garden for their visitors.

Upon arrival we were greeted with two new hummers for our list… the Festive Coquette (pictured above) and White-chinned Sapphire!

Many butterflies were attracted tot he flowers as well, like this Oleria sp. and the Lasaia agesilas below.


Monk Saki

Our highlight for the afternoon was most certainly the pair of Monk Saki monkeys that ate slowly from a branch above the trail. We watched and photographed them for quite a while!

These primates are a very good indicator that the forests in this area are extremely healthy!
