Day 3 in a word was “AWESOME”. We added 4 new species, saw stunning scenery, and had near perfect weather. Are we really on the Olympic Peninsula? The State of Washington continues to dazzle. The crystal blue skies were just unbelievable. And the deep blue waters looked so crisp and inviting. The trees are a real spectacle. Broad-leaf trees are turning colors and the evergreens make everything feel so alive.
The new species for the year included Red-breasted Sapsucker, Pacific Wren, Northwestern Crow, and Harlequin Duck. The most stunning story today though, is quite a good find. The sharp-eyed leader, Chris Brown, spotted a Tropical Kingbird today around lunchtime in Neah Bay, WA. Before the day was out we found two more Tropical Kingbirds in the same area. And at one point, all 3 birds were perched on the wires near the intersection of Portage & Woodland. Wow! Great find, Chris! Everyone in both vans got great looks.
Our tour count is up to 93 species. Our year total is now 516 species. Tomorrow will have lots of driving. We will bird locally in the morning and then drive to the Pacific Coast near Grays Harbor.
