We are delighted to learn that the 25th annual California Condor release in Vermilion Cliffs, Arizona, will be broadcast virtually on September 26. Though the public cannot be on-site due to covid-19, the event will go on, and everyone is invited to watch via The Peregrine Fund’s YouTube channel
The Peregrine Fund, in collaboration with many partners, will release up to four captive-bred California Condors into the wild from spectacular clifftop ledges, on National Public Lands Day. The celebration highlights the resiliency of an iconic species brought back from the brink of extinction in the 1980’s, when there were just 22 birds left in the world; today their population is close to 500.  The California Condor is one of the targets of Wildside’s short trip tour in California, when we spend a day exploring Bitter Creek National Wildlife Refuge, a major reserve for the endangered species.
Read more about the Condor’s remarkable story and the virtual public release event on The Peregrine Fund website. Wildside will be tuning in to YouTube on September 26, 11:00 am to watch the spectacle, and hope you’ll join in, too!
