Tomorrow, October 17, marks the beginning of the first Global Bird Weekend, a great reason to get out, go birding, and support bird conservation.

October 17 is also the October Big Day, a 24-hour opportunity to celebrate birds. Whether you bird for 10 minutes in your backyard, or spend hours exploring a nature preserve, this weekend is a great time to make sure your citizen-science observations count.

If you don’t already have an eBird account, it’s free and easy to create one. You just need an email address, access to a computer, and to go birding! These fun initiatives are advanced by eBird, the largest wildlife database in the world and an internationally-important resource for avian research, analysis, and conservation. eBird, a program of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, connects people from all corners of the world in the wonderful world of birds – check it out today!
