Thanks to all who responded to our quiz! Here are the answers and a couple of respondents’ processes to get to the correct ID:

Image #1 was correctly ID’d by many as a Black-throated Green Warbler.

Brandon B. wrote: My snap id was Pine Warbler. The olive back, dark wings and especially those white outer tail feathers pushed me that direction. Then after a few more moments, I noticed the two black flank streaks and yellow wash on either side of the rump and that pushed me over to my final conclusion, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER. The broad white wingbar and the brighter yellow which is the back portion of the face added to the conclusion.

Image # 2 was much more easily ID’d as a Black-throated Blue Warbler.
Mary Beth wrote: Black-throated Blue, based on the white wing square alone, but the blue, black, and white pattern is like none other.

Image #3 offered a few ID issues but most got the correct ID of Chestnut-sided Warbler.
Dominik wrote: female/immature Chestnut-sided Warbler, lime green above (no other NA warbler that I know of shows that hue) with hint of chestnut on the sides.
The “good” images and the “bad” images are each represented by the same individual bird. All were photographed at Magee Marsh this May.
Thanks for participating! I hope you enjoyed the challenge, and we will be posting more challenges in the future!
